In ihrer Einzelausstellung „Annunciation“ im Kunsthaus Essen präsentiert die Künstlerin Yaël Kempf neue Arbeiten, die vor Ort entstanden und den Räumen des Kunstvereins sowie der Beschäftigung mit dem Raum als Thema gewidmet sind. Auf 150 Quadratmetern entfaltet sich ein Erlebnis, in dem die Künstlerin der Frage nachgeht, was einen Sinn ergeben kann, wenn wir doch in einer Welt voller Absurditäten leben. Was ist der Ausgangspunkt des künstlerischen Schaffens? Wo können wir träumen? Was, wo und wie zeigen wir etwas, in einer Welt immer neuer Bilder?
Aus der Möglichkeit den vorhandenen Platz im Kunsthaus Essen zu bespielen, entsteht ein Werk- und Bilderkosmos, angereichert aus Reminiszenzen des Lebens, verbunden mit Sehnsüchten, persönlichen und kollektiven Erinnerungen. Sie bearbeitet Formen, Elemente und Themen aus der Architektur- und Kunstgeschichte, visualisiert Gedanken aus Philosophie und geht dem Wunsch nach der Natur etwas zurückzugeben. Das ewige Ringen um die Hierarchie zwischen Natur und Kultur wird ausgehebelt durch die Natur und den Bildern von ihr.
Yaël Kempf stellt Fragen an uns als Gesellschaft und verflechtet diese in einer auf drei Räumen verteilten Installation: So entsteht eine Inszenierung, in der der Weg das entscheidende Kriterium sozialer, klimatischer und kultureller Dimensionen ist. In her solo exhibition ‘Annunciation’ at Kunsthaus Essen, the artist Yaël Kempf presents new works that were created on site and are dedicated to the rooms of the Kunstverein and the exploration of space as a theme. On 150 square metres, an experience unfolds in which the artist explores the question of what can make sense when we live in a world full of absurdities. What is the starting point of artistic creation? Where can we dream? What, where and how do we show something in a world of ever new images?
The opportunity to utilise the available space in the Kunsthaus Essen gives rise to a cosmos of works and images, enriched by reminiscences of life, combined with longings, personal and collective memories. She works with forms, elements and themes from the history of architecture and art, visualises thoughts from philosophy and pursues the desire to give something back to nature. The eternal struggle for the hierarchy between nature and culture is cancelled out by nature and the images of it.
Yaël Kempf poses questions to us as a society and interweaves them in an installation spread over three rooms: the result is a staging in which the path is the decisive criterion for social, climatic and cultural dimensions. Come to the opening and let yourself be taken along.
