WHITE FLAG

Wie gehen wir in der Kunst mit Zukunftsangst und Sinnverlust um? Das sind Fragen, mit denen sich das WHITE FLAG Art Project beschäftigt. WHITE FLAG ist ein internationales, von Künstler*innen geleitetes Projekt, das die weiße Flagge als künstlerisches Thema erforscht, um aktuelle globale Herausforderungen aufzugreifen und zu bearbeiten.

Vom 11. August bis 01. Oktober 2023 präsentierten die Künstler*innen Karin van der Molen (NL), Katharina Lökenhoff (D), Pat van Boeckel (NL) und Karem Ibrahim (EG/GB) das Kunstprojekt WHITE FLAG im Kunsthaus Essen e.V. und parallel in der Galerie Gublia, ebenfalls in Essen.

Das Projekt geht von der weißen Flagge als Symbol der Hingabe aus sowie der Unfähigkeit sofortige Antworten für neue Wege zu finden. WHITE FLAG steht für Menschlichkeit, Empathie, Nichtwissen und Nicht-Nationalismus. Die Flagge kann auch bewusst Zeitgenossenschaft symbolisieren. Das Projekt ist offen für unterschiedliche Kulturen und mannigfaltige Interpretationen.

SYMPOSIUM

Während des Symposiums werden die Initiator*innen des Projekts die Hintergründe ihrer Arbeit erläutern und sich gerne mit den Autor*innen der geposteten Beiträge persönlich austauschen. Dafür sind alle eingeladen, Ihre Sicht auf die Weiße Flagge zu präsentieren und Ihre Ideen mit Künstlerkolleg*innen und anderen Zuhörer*innen zu teilen.

Das Programm bietet Filmfragmente, persönliche Präsentationen und die Möglichkeit, ein Netzwerk zwischen den Initiator*innen, den teilnehmenden Künstler*innen und dem Publikum zu schaffen. Der Nachmittag klingt im Anschluss mit Drinks und Fingerfood aus.

INVITATION TO WHITE FLAG AND THE SYMPOSIUM

The WHITE FLAG art project is an international, artist-led project that explores the „White Flag“ as an artistic theme to take up and address current global challenges. In the context of the exhibition WHITE FLAG, which can be seen at Kunsthaus Essen e.V. from August 11 – September 10, 2023, a symposium will take place on Sunday, August 13.

From August 11 – September 10, 2023, the artists* Karin van der Molen (NL), Katharina Lökenhoff (D), Pat van Boeckel (NL) and Karem Ibrahim (EG/GB) present the WHITE FLAG art project at Kunsthaus Essen. It aims to explore the artistic possibilities and meaning of the „White Flag“ as a response to global challenges and crises. The project aims to foster new perspectives, understanding, dialogue and connection between artists* and audiences.

The „White Flag Art Project“ stands for humanity, empathy, non-knowledge and non-nationalism, acknowledging our inability to find immediate solutions for global problems . In this art project the white flag symbolizes conscious contemporaneity.

During the symposium, the initiators of the project will explain the background of their work and will be happy to personally exchange ideas with the authors of the contributions. For this, everyone is invited to present your view of the „White Flag“ and share your ideas with fellow artists and other audience members.

The program offers film fragments, personal presentations, a moderated group exchange and the possibility to create a network between the initiators, the participating artists* and the audience. The afternoon will end together with drinks and finger food afterwards.
